Research shows multi-chamber shelters have a higher occupancy rate. The landing skerfs at the base of the house provide the platform needed for bats to grip when landing, and the grooved interior walls provide a cozy and safe place for bats to climb and roost.

Mount the box 10 to 15 feet off the ground on a flat, vertical surface (like a building wall or a pole) to keep them safe from predators.

Choose a sheltered spot that receives approximately 6 hours of direct morning sunlight. Bats love warmth, but in the summer in the South, bat houses can become too hot for a comfortable internal temperature.

A single brown bat can eat between 600 and 1,200 mosquitoes in one hour. According to organizations like the U.S. Forest Service and the National Park Service, their rapid hunting capabilities allow them to catch approximately 10 to 20 small insects every single minute during peak feeding times. Over the course of an entire night, a nursing mother bat can consume up to 4,500 insects—often equivalent to her entire body weight—making them nice companions for those who enjoy evening activities outside.
